Description

The aim of this demonstration class is that you will leave it feeling confident to maintain your fruit trees.  The preparation that is done in the colder months pays mighty dividends in the growing and harvesting seasons to come.

Learn all of the pruning techniques and needs of individual fruit trees from apples and plums to persimmons and pomegranates.  And hear about what NOT to do!

Discover how to reduce and prevent pest and diseases that compromise your fruit production.  Learn how to treat problems with different methods - organic/permaculture and conventional.

We also cover buying new fruit trees.

We are happy to be demonstrating how to clean and sharpen your pruning tools and other edged garden tools (spades etc).  This workshop includes a hands-on practical component where you have the option to bring one of your own pruning tools along and learn to sharpen it.

Presented by Angelo Eliades

Angelo is presenter, trainer and writer in the areas of sustainable gardening and Permaculture. He is a passionate forest gardening advocate, and has a thriving demonstration Permaculture food forest garden in Melbourne’s inner northern suburbs which he regularly opens to the public.

With over a decade of experience in organic gardening, his specialty is designing and building food forests – sustainable intensive food production systems which utilize ecologically-based design principles for maximum productivity, minimum work and natural pest and weed control.

When he is not consulting, teaching, working in the retail nursery industry, or enjoying time in his own garden, he supports community gardening projects as a technical advisor, and runs the educational sustainable gardening website Deep Green Permaculture.

A great workshop on fruit tree pruning. As a newbie I am on a steep learning curve but this workshop was great and prevented me from disastrous pruning that I would have done without it!! ( plus I got to know how to sharpen my secateurs and how to use them properly!

It always nice to know BAAG and it’s team are caring for plants, gardens & ‘their owners’ in a timely manner. And the BAAG staff live and breathe their art everyday. That’s why I love their courses - Winter Fruit Tree Maintenance gave a great deal of information & opportunity to learn and experience. I’ve got most of my trees winter pruned now - thanks for the tips - Next stop for me will be preparing my produce! And maybe some garden art!
