Learn a traditional craft where you can also show some of your own creativity. 

Stitched basket

Create a small basket using a coiling and stitching technique.

Materials provided will be dyed corn husk and natural corn husk, chasmanthe, sea grass and natural and coloured cane. Learn how to start and shape your basket and how to apply different finishing techniques to the rim of the basket.

Hanging Garlic Basket

You will make this basket using a random weave technique that makes it easier to construct. The basket uses vines for the framework . You will be using natural fibres such as grapevine, chasmanthe, palm Inflorescence, corn husk and cane

All materials are supplied. You will also be introduced to identifying, collecting, storing and treating suitable plant materials from the environment that can be used for basketry. Learn what is suitable for making baskets and what is not suitable.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Jeanette is an art teacher and a fibre and clay artist who has been weaving baskets for over 30 years. She was introduced to making traditional baskets in 1986 when she was awarded a teacher exchange to Pennsylvania USA for a year. This is the second basket making workshop I have done with Jeanette. She is a very relaxed teacher and very generous with sharing her knowledge & ideas. A great day with the added bonus of leaving with a finished basket.
